3D Embroidery

32-bit Windows 7

3D Embroidery Studio & Professional
These will install and operate on 32-bit Windows 7 using the same patches as required for Windows Vista:

Machine Communication with Designer SE
This will work with Windows 7. You do not need to turn off the User Account Controls. Just install the 3D Machine Communication Software CD which comes with the Designer SE and set up Send 1 in Configure.

Machine Communication with Designer Diamond
This will work with Windows 7, however you need the 4D Machine Communication Software which comes with the Designer Diamond. If you have any other 4D software, the communicator should install with that software. You do not need to turn off the User Account Controls.

Programmable Card USB Reader/Writer
When the hardware is first plugged in, it will try to install the drivers automatically but they will not install correctly. To reinstall the drivers:

  • Insert 3D Program CD and close any prompts that show up to install the software.
  • Open Device Manager and look for the incorrectly installed driver
  • Right click on the device and select UPDATE DRIVER
  • Select CHOOSE LOCATION and browse to the CD Drive with the 3D Program CD
  • Drivers should install correctly

There are a number of issues I had when testing this hardware. It would READ the card just fine, but when I would try to WRITE the card it would lock up the program. Likewise, when I would WRITE the card first, it would lock up when I tried to READ the card afterwards. As of now I am not sure the fix for this, please email if you find one.

d-Card Reader/Writer
When the hardware is first plugged in, it will try to install the drivers automatically but they will not install correctly. To reinstall the drivers, follow the steps for the Programmable Card Reader/Writer in the previous section.

The only glitch I found with the d-Card Reader/Writer is that the program locks up if you READ CARD after using NEW to clear the screen. If you do not use the NEW button, you can READ and WRITE CARD all day with no issues.

64-bit Windows 7

3D Embroidery will install and operate on 64-bit Windows 7 following the same instructions above. I have not tested the peripherials on 64-bit Windows 7 but the results are probably the same.

4D Embroidery

Installing 4D Embroidery onto Windows 7:

When installing the 4D Embroidery System onto Windows 7 computers, the dongle drivers may not initially work correctly, as the 4D Embroidery System installs a set of dongle drivers which were created before Windows 7.

Download and install the latest dongle drivers prior to installing the 4D Embroidery System. Failure to do this, may result in the "Dongle driver not found (E0009)" message when you try to open the 4D modules.

Please follow the steps below to install the latest dongle drivers BEFORE installing the 4D Embroidery System:

  1. Download the latest Dongle Drivers <http://www.vsmsoftware.net/downloads/HASP/HASPUserSetup.exe>.
  2. Double click on the 4DWin7DongleUpdate.exe file to start the dongle installation process.
  3. Click Yes to any User Account Control (UAC) messages that appear.
  4. When the dongle installation process is complete; you will see an 'Operation completed successfully' message.
  5. Insert your dongle - the 'Found New Hardware' process will start.
  6. When the 'Found New Hardware' process is complete, install your 4D Embroidery System software (and all updates.. see below).
  7. Open your 4D Embroidery System software to confirm that your dongle is working correctly.

If you installed the 4D Embroidery System software before installing the latest dongle drivers and if you experience problems such as the error message "Unable to start hasplms service...":

  • Download the 8.31 update and install

Other Important Information

The 8.31 Update will only install if you already have the 8.3 update. If you have not installed the previous updates, please update to 8.3 prior to installing the 8.31 update.

If you have 4D ExpressMonogram Wizard installed, it will already have been upgraded to the version 8.3 as part of the 4D ExpressMonogram Wizard installation.

The 8.31 Update is only to fix the Windows 7 issues that we found during testing - so this only applies to Windows 7 users. Please note that if you do not have Windows 7 but install the update, it will not cause any problems.
