Installing 3D Embroidery
Mirrored from Janice Henning's Tips & Techniques

I decided to take all the precautions for a successful installation.

1. I shut down my Firewall by clicking on “start, control panel, security, windows firewall”.

2. Vista has a “user account control”. I clicked on “start, settings, control panel , user accounts” and turned off (unchecked) the “user account control”. I personally leave this off because I don’t have anyone but me at my computer so don’t have to worry about anyone making changes. (This is not on the XP computer)

3. I closed my antivirus. Mine is on the task bar and I right clicked and clicked on “Quit”. Yours may say close or exit.

4. Vista has a “side bar icon” on the taskbar. This includes the clock on the right side of the screen. I right clicked on that taskbar icon and shut it down too. If you place your cursor at each of those icons on the taskbar, a pop up will tell you what it is. (This is not on the XP)

First, download the two drivers that I am directing you to. One is from Viking and the other is from Aladdin and they are both for Vista. I found I needed both of them.

http://www.emnetsoftware.com/downloads/updates/3DEmbroideryVistaDongleUpdate.exe
After downloading the file, double click to install the update.

Then go to this site to get the Aladdin driver.
http://www.aladdin.com/support/hasp/hasp4/enduser.asp
It will be the first one listed.

Now once you have those downloaded, insert the 3D Embroidery CD and let it install and be sure to choose "all machines". Leave the disk in the computer for now..

Then double click on each of those files to install them.

Now, plug in the dongle and see if the computer will recognize the new device and wait for it to tell you it's okay.

Then double click on the 3D desktop icon to open the program.

If you still get a dongle message, your disks may be old and didn't include the 7.25 update.

Close 3D, and open up 3D Configure and click on Smart Update. Download the 7.25 update and the thread database files. The database file will include the Do It All Hoop.

Designer Direct USB Connection

There has been issues with the 4D Software and the Designer Diamond or SE when using the Direct USB Connection via "Send 1" or "Send 2".

To resolve this you need to turn off Vista's User Account Control:

1) Open the Control Panel from your Start Menu
2) Double click on "User Accounts"

3) Click on "Turn User Account Control on or off"

4) UNcheck "Use user Account Control (UAC) to
    help protect your computer"
5) Click "OK"

You will be prompted to restart your computer. Save any open files and restart.

Wacom Tablet

We have had issues where the Wacom "4D Drawing Kit" Tablet does not work properly, if at all, after installing the 4D Professional System onto a computer with Windows Vista.

If you are having this problem, you need to download and install the most current driver for the tablet. Click the link below to download this driver:

Driver 5.11-1 RC for Windows Vista (32 and 64 bit), XP & 2000

 Multilingual

cons511-1_int.exe

7.44 MB

10.04.2009

download

Tip for using Wacom Tablet

When using your Wacom Tablet with Microsoft Vista, turning off the "Press and Hold for right-clicking" makes the pen much nicer to use!

Follow these steps to do so:

1) Open the Control Panel from your Start Menu and
make sure you are in "Classic View"
2) Double click on "Pen and Input Devices"

3) Under the "Pen Options" tab, select "Press and
    hold".
4) Click "Settings..."

5) UNcheck "Enable press and hold for right-clicking"
6) Click "OK"

Monogram Wizard for Vista

If you have Microsoft Vista and would like to install Monogram Wizard or Monogram Wizard Plus, you need to download the most current release of the software which is Vista compatible.
